The draft brings one of the better stories for the team this year, as the son of former Rockies star Matt Holliday was taken with the No. 4 overall pick.

Every NL West team featured a star like Freddie Freeman, Manny Machado, Logan Webb or Eugenio Suarez. The Rockies offered Hunter Goodman. Goodman is a promising slugger, but ranks among the league’s worst catchers in the field. On cue, he committed the game’s first error, firing a throw into center field on a stolen base attempt.

Matt was a seven-time All-Star outfielder who played 15 seasons for the Rockies, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees. Jackson Holliday reached the majors with Baltimore last season at the age of 20, appearing in 60 games and hitting .189. He is hitting .259 with 12 home runs and 14 doubles in 87 games so far this season.

Condon was the Rockies’ first-round pick (No. 3 overall) in last July’s MLB draft. He signed a $9.25 million bonus contract with the Rockies, tying him for the largest signing bonus in history with another 2024 selection, Cincinnati’s Chase Burns, who just made his MLB debut.
