The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for President Donald Trump's administration to resume dismantling the Department of Education, part of his bid to shrink the federal government's role in education in favor of more control by the states.

The Department of Justice told the Supreme Court Monday that it should deny hearing convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal. Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking girls to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claimed a 2007 non-prosecution agreement in Florida between Epstein and the government covered her as well.

WASHINGTON − An ideologically divided Supreme Court on July 14 allowed the Trump administration to fire hundreds of workers from the Education Department and continue other efforts to dismantle the agency.
