The Chicago Cubs signed veteran Spencer Turnbull to a Minor League deal on Friday afternoon, and while it's not the trade deadline splash fans are hoping for later this month, it could pay dividends nonetheless.

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull has signed a minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs. Turnbull, 32, was released by the Toronto Blue Jays last month. He had signed with Toronto in May after a prolonged free agency that stretched into the regular season.
